AGRUMARIA CORLEONE - FROM LEMON JUICE A TABLET TO FIGHT TUMOURS

An idea becomes a business reality.

Agrumaria Corleone S.p.A. has become part of the team of the startup NavheTec creating a limited company to manufacture and market the first tablets produced from nanovesicles isolated from lemon juice that will assist traditional cancer treatment methods in fighting tumours.

In addition to Agrumaria Corleone S.p.A., the team is comprised of Professor Riccardo Allessandro, Tenured Professor of Biopathology and Medical Biotechnology at the University of Palermo, Alice Conigliaro and Stefania Raimondo, researchers at the Univerity of Palermo, Dott.ssa Mariangela Sartorio, commercial manager, and biologist Giacomo De Leo. The raw material in the form of lemon juice will be supplied by Agrumaria Corleone S.p.A., founded in Palermo more than 100 years ago and leaders in the production of citrus juices.

“We immediately had faith in this project which we consider to be revolutionary and the first of its kind in the world” says Valeria Corleone, Quality Control Manager of the company. “The collaboration developed over the past twelve months with the University has produced incredible results which bode well for the future”.

“For all of us at Agrumaria Corleone” continues Valeria “it is a source of great satisfaction to be able to play a role in making the health benefits of Sicilian lemon more widely known throughout the world. Our company will supply the lemon juice to make a tablet which will contain the nanovesicles from more than half a litre of juice. The product will soon undergo patient trials and then move into commercial production”.
